Coping is the cap that runs along the top edge of your pool. It finishes the look, gives swimmers something to hold, and protects the bond beam underneath from water. In Arizona, coping takes a beating: the deck expands and contracts in 115° heat, soils shift after monsoon rains, and the flexible joint between the coping and deck dries out and fails. Once that happens, stones loosen, crack, and let water in where it doesn’t belong.

Why loose coping becomes a bigger problem
Coping sits on the bond beam, the thick top edge of your pool’s shell. When coping loosens or the joint fails, rain, splash-out, and irrigation water run down behind the tile line. Over time that water pops tile loose, stains the finish, and can crack the beam itself.
