Arizona Pool Builder — Custom Pool Design & Construction
We Fix Ugly Pools® has designed and built swimming pools across metro Phoenix since 2001. From the first sketch to the final fill, one licensed Arizona team handles your pool — built for the heat, the soil, and the way you live outside.
Choosing a pool builder is the single biggest decision in a new-pool project. The company you hire designs the pool, pulls the permits, engineers the shell, and stands behind the work for years. We Fix Ugly Pools® has been that company for Arizona homeowners since 2001 — a licensed, bonded, and insured contractor with more than 20,000 pools built and renovated across the Phoenix metro, and 700-plus projects completed every year.
Why choose We Fix Ugly Pools as your Arizona pool builder
Arizona is not a forgiving place to build a swimming pool. Expansive, variable soils swell and shrink with every monsoon, 115° summer heat stresses concrete and plumbing, and hard water goes to work on finishes from the day a pool is filled. Building here well takes a contractor who designs and engineers specifically for those conditions — not a national template dropped into the desert. We have built in those conditions since 2001, which is why so much of our work is referred by past customers and why we carry a 4.9-star rating from more than 305 verified reviews.
We are a licensed Arizona contractor (ROC KA5-275609 residential / KB2-304269 commercial / KA5-353555), bonded and insured, so your project is protected from permit through warranty. New pool construction runs under our sister brand, We Build New Pools, with the same crews, the same standards, and the same 25 years of Valley experience behind every build.

Custom pools designed around your backyard
Every pool we build starts with your yard, your home’s architecture, and how you actually want to use the space — laps, family swims, entertaining, or a quiet resort-style retreat. There is no catalog pool. We design the shape, depth, decking, and features to fit your lot and your budget, then build it to last in the Arizona climate.

How much does it cost to build a pool in Arizona?
Most new inground pools we build in the Phoenix metro fall between $38,000 and $60,000. Simpler designs on an open, easy-access lot land toward the lower end; larger pools, or builds with spas, water features, extended decking, and automation, commonly run $60,000 and up. Your final number depends on size and depth, shape complexity, the interior finish you choose, decking material and square footage, and site conditions such as access, grading, and rock.
Because every lot and wish list is different, we give you a clear written proposal after a design consultation rather than a vague ballpark. If you are weighing a new build against renovating what you already have, our Arizona pool remodel cost guide breaks down resurface, tile, and remodel pricing so you can compare honestly.

Gunite and shotcrete: built to last in the desert
We build with sprayed, steel-reinforced concrete — gunite and shotcrete — rather than drop-in shells. A monolithic concrete shell can be formed into any shape, carries the structural reinforcement Arizona’s expansive soils demand, and gives you a pool that can be resurfaced and kept for decades instead of replaced.
That construction choice is the foundation of a pool that holds up. On top of it, your interior finish sets the lifespan of the surface: plaster typically lasts 5–7 years, quartz 12–18 years, and pebble 25–30 years. We help you match the finish to how long you plan to stay and how you want the water to look and feel.
Finishes, features & decking we build
A pool is more than a hole full of water — the finishes and features are what make it yours. We build the full range of interior finishes (plaster, quartz, and pebble), waterline tile, and coping in travertine, precast concrete, and pavers. On the deck we install travertine, pavers, and concrete sized to the space and shaded to stay cooler underfoot.
For features, we design in spillover spas, baja/tanning shelves, waterfalls and water bowls, fire features, LED lighting, and automation you can run from your phone. Browse our pool design options to see shapes, styles, and features side by side, or see completed custom pools for ideas.
As seen in the news
Recognized across Arizona & national media
We Fix Ugly Pools® and owner Brian Morris, “the Ugly Pool Guy,” hold a world record for the fastest pool build and have been featured by national and Arizona outlets, including as expert pool columnists for The Arizona Republic.
“They designed exactly the pool we pictured and built it on schedule. The crew was professional, and it has held up beautifully in the Arizona heat. Worth every penny.”
Standards & warranty you can count on
As a licensed Arizona contractor, every pool we build is permitted, inspected, and constructed to code. We build on engineered, steel-reinforced concrete shells, use quality equipment and finishes, and back our work with written warranties on the structure and craftsmanship — with manufacturer warranties on the interior finish and equipment on top of that. You will always have a clear written scope and proposal before the first shovel of dirt moves, so there are no surprises.
- Permitted & inspected. Every build meets Arizona code and city requirements.

- Written warranties. Structure and workmanship backed in writing.

Building pools across the Phoenix Valley
We build in backyards all over metro Phoenix, and the ground under each one behaves a little differently. The East Valley — Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Queen Creek, and San Tan Valley — sits on some of the most reactive, expansive soils in the region, which is exactly why an engineered, steel-reinforced shell matters so much there. Hillside lots in Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Anthem, and Cave Creek bring rock, grade, and access challenges that change how a pool is dug and plumbed. Established neighborhoods in Phoenix, Tempe, Glendale, and Peoria often mean tight side-yard access and mature landscaping to work around.
Twenty-five years and 20,000-plus pools across those conditions mean we have almost certainly built in a yard like yours. We plan access, grading, and the shell for your specific lot rather than assuming every site is flat and open — one of the biggest differences between a pool that holds up in Arizona and one that gives you trouble a few seasons in. Whether you are in Ahwatukee, Surprise, or anywhere in between, the same licensed crews and the same standards build your pool.
